Welcome back! Goals for spring at Coe College

Welcome back everyone, for a spring semester that actually feels like spring at the beginning of the semester, as opposed to some time vaguely around Easter.  This unseasonably warm weather has put goals for spring and spring cleaning on my mind.  So while I'm doing my best to get ready for the upcoming semester, I am also going to take the time to pass along what I hope will become goals for students here at Coe for the first part of 2012.

  • Are you graduating this May?  If so, make sure you take time go through your room to make sure that no library materials are hidden on top of your dresser or wedged between you bed and the wall.  I also recommend taking time to back-up any work that you've done of which you are particularly proud, along with saving any articles that you've found interesting or that have influenced your work.  These are the types of resources you will wish that you have when you are applying to future jobs or even graduate school a few years down the road.  With articles that you've found using our databases here, it's good be aware that many of these article will be much more difficult to obtain without the subscription access provided by Coe.

  • Speaking of graduating, are you working on an honors thesis?  If so, please take the time to set up a meeting with Katelyn or Harlene in the reference department.  Odds are, no matter what field of study you are pursuing, there are resources that you will need that might take some coordination in order to allow you to access them.  Meeting with members of the reference department early in the spring will save you time and stress in the long run, and both Katelyn and Harlene are happy to assist with research while also answering questions related to copyright and usage.

  • And finally, keep an eye on the library blog!  We'll be using the blog to announce in library events while also discussing larger issues relating to libraries and information that effect you (yes you, you intrepid member of the Coe community, you), so feel free to drop by every once and bit to see what's going on here.  This is also a great place to give us feedback on things on going relating to the library, and we will be reading what you have to say.

So on that note, welcome back to campus everyone! Have a great semester, and please remember that the library is here to support you in all your learning endeavors!
